Falko, Haddington

Characterful dog-friendly coffee shop on the Haddington main street. Great coffees and good soups. The Salmon Royale is also highly recommended. If you want lunch, get there before kitchen closes at 3pm. Busy during October as it is in the only place open, so be prepared to queue for bit – not taking bookings at present.

The walk alongside the river is looking lovely in all the autumn colours – and it’s fun to trace the old mill stream alongside the path.

The Stables, Falkland

Absolutely delightful new café on the walk up to the Falkland House Estate. Garden is gorgeous and dogs are also allowed inside, though indoor seating is minimal. Definitely recommended on a sunny day!

Walking in the nearby woods.
1 Aug 2021 Now has a huge outdoor canopy, which doubles as a sun shield and a rain shield. Plenty tables around d the edge of you prefer the sun (or the rain!)

The Hayloft, Falkland

Super little tearoom which also does lunches. If you want to stop here, you will need to book ahead to get the one dog-friendly table. The owner is extremely thorough about all the social distancing measures and this is attracting a lot of business!

The Steading, Hillend

Lovely country pub near the foot of the road to the Midlothian ski centre. Dog friendly in the bar area. Large garden out the back with outdoor tables – sunny spot in the middle of the afternoon, although with a fair amount of traffic noise.

The Old Smithy, St Abbs

Handy little dog-friendly café about half a mile up the road from the village. This is the spot to stop with your pooch if it is cold or wet since the popular Ebbcars café by the harbour is not dog friendly inside.
